OPERATION OF THE STRENGTH OF RHGBMSS
Its experience and skill in training :
The RHGBMSS trains a variety of organizations in Kadapa District. These include government organizations, NGOs, Donor organizations and research and training institutions. The RHGBMSS has made advancements in a number of participatory methodologies, the main one being participatory rural appraisal (PRA). For this, the organization has achieved district and state recognition).
ITS EXPERIENCE AND SKILL IN COMMUNITY ORGANISATION
Today the people’s institutions that have emerged with the facilitation of RHGBMSS are well on the road to viability and sustainability. Several of them are managing the natural resources of their respective areas and training outsiders on their own. Community organization forms the basis for RHGBMSS’s other activities.
ITS GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS
The RHGBMSS has traditionally had a very close relationship with the Agriculture, Forest, DRDA and NABARD.
Its experience and skill in implementing participatory land based resource development projects, such as watershed and wasteland development, tank rehabilitation, forestry, agro forestry etc.
Its growing skill in Micro Finance and Micro Enterprise Development.
Its familiarity with rural communities and NGOs in these the district.
The RHGBMSS’s interventions aim to break the cycle of poverty in these regions. This is done through a variety of ongoing programs of Community Organization, Natural Resources Management, Micro Enterprise Development through Micro Finance and Capacity Building.
Most of the major developmental concepts and strategies adopted during the program have not remained stagnant but have evolved over the years. The model being demonstrated in the current project is based on the experience of RHGBMSS over the past 26 years of implementation of different programmes. It focuses as always on poor families who are the primary stakeholders in the Watershed, Health, Education, Mother & Child Health Education Programme. These stakeholders are organized into CBO’s which later form Cluster Level Associations. An ongoing program of capacity building for these community based organizations will enable them to play an increasing role in participatory development of the community and its natural resources. These organizations also have an important role to play in ensuring the sustainability of the developmental interventions.
